Why is pretend play so important? In this photo Why is pretend play so important?

In this photo children play and act out their interest in hair dressing.

At Learning Blocks we use pretend play to enable children learn to do things like negotiate, consider others' perspectives, transfer knowledge from one situation to another, delay gratification, balance their own ideas with others, develop a plan and act on it, explore symbolism, express and listen to thoughts and ideas, assign tasks and roles. Pretend play helps your the children understand the power of language. When the children engages in pretend (or dramatic) play, they are actively experimenting with the social and emotional roles of life.
